La orden jesuita llegó a la villa de S.F. de Quito el 19/julio/1586, con el propósito de fundar la Compañía. La construcción de la iglesia de san Ignacio de Loyola de La Compañía de Jesús se inicia con la compra del solar el 25/enero/1605
En el año 1614 llegan los planos definitivos de la Iglesia desde Roma. Durante 160 años se construye el complejo arquitectónico clerical entre las calles García Moreno, Espejo, Benalcázar y Sucre. Para realizar la obra se tuvo que salvar la profunda quebrada de Zanguña
Este complejo jesuítico, incluyó la Residencia de San Ignacio de Loyola, el Seminario San Luis, al Colegio Máximo, la Universidad de San Gregorio Magno y la Procura de las Misiones de Maynas. Desde 1862 funcionó el Colegio San Gabriel y 42 años el Colegio san Luis Gonzaga
The Jesuit order arrived in the town of San Francisco, Quito, on July 19, 1586, with the purpose of founding the Society of Jesus. Construction of the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola of the Society of Jesus began with the purchase of the land on January 25, 1605.
In 1614, the final plans for the church arrived from Rome. The clerical architectural complex was built over 160 years between García Moreno, Espejo, Benalcázar, and Sucre streets. The construction of the complex required crossing the deep Zanguña ravine.
This Jesuit complex included the San Ignacio de Loyola Residence, the San Luis Seminary, the Colegio Máximo, the University of San Gregorio Magno, and the Maynas Mission Office. The Colegio San Gabriel operated from 1862, and the Colegio San Luis Gonzaga for 42 years.
